How do I choose a motion preset or motion style?
Motion presets give you a quick starting point for how your virtual camera behaves. Instead of adjusting every parameter manually, pick a preset that matches the look you want. You can also fine-tune the underlying parameters with conceptual sliders.
Where to find presets
On the editor toolbar, tap the preset icon to open the preset picker. It shows two sections:
- Recommended (Smart Presets): These use intelligent analysis to adapt to your video content.
- Classic (Classic Presets): Traditional, parameter-based presets for specific looks.
Smart Presets (Recommended)
| Preset | Icon | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Tripod | ▲ | Interviews, talking heads, presentations. Rock-solid stability like a locked-off tripod. |
| Gimbal | ◎ | Smooth tracking shots. Quick response for following moving subjects. |
| Handheld Cinema | ✋ | Documentary-style footage. Subtle organic motion for a cinematic handheld look. |
| Action Follow | 🏃 | Sports, fast action, chase scenes. Responsive tracking that keeps up with rapid movement. |
Classic Presets
| Preset | Icon | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Smooth | ~ | General purpose. Natural, gentle camera movement. |
| Cinematic | 🎬 | Film-style projects. Heavy camera feel with deliberate, dramatic moves. |
| Dolly In | ↓ | Gradual push-in effect. Good for building emotional intensity. |
| Reveal | ⬍ | Smooth reveal from a close shot to a wide shot. |
| Handheld | ✋ | Organic, slightly unsteady handheld camera look. Adds realism. |
| Locked Horizon | ═ | Stabilized with a locked horizon line. Good for landscape or architectural footage. |
| Vertical Follow | ↕ | Optimized for vertical (portrait) video. Good for TikTok, Reels, Shorts. |
| Social Punch | ⚡ | Punchy, energetic moves designed for social media content. |
Conceptual sliders (fine-tuning)
Underneath the preset picker, the "Custom Parameters" section lets you fine-tune three aspects of the camera feel:
Virtual Camera (Stabilization)
Controls how much stabilization is applied:
- Physical (0%): Less stabilization — the camera feels like a real physical camera with subtle natural movement.
- Virtual (100%): Maximum stabilization — the camera is perfectly smooth, like a virtual or gimbal-stabilized shot.
- Values in between: Light, Moderate, Strong, Maximum.
Camera Weight
Controls the perceived mass of the camera:
- Light (0%): Quick, responsive movements. The camera snaps to its targets.
- Heavy (100%): Slow, deliberate movements. The camera takes time to accelerate and decelerate.
- Values in between: Light, Medium, Heavy, Very Heavy.
Organic Motion (Handheld feel)
Adds subtle, natural camera shake:
- None (0%): Perfectly smooth. No handheld movement.
- Strong (100%): Pronounced handheld motion. The camera feels like it was operated by hand.
- Values in between: Off, Subtle, Moderate, Strong.
How to apply a preset
- Open the preset picker from the toolbar.
- Tap or click a preset. The camera movement updates immediately.
- If you want to tweak, expand "Custom Parameters" and adjust the sliders.
- Your preset choice is saved with the project.
Tips
- Start with Tripod for any video where the subject should stay centered and stable — it is the safest default.
- Use Handheld Cinema when you want a cinematic feel without a perfectly robotic look.
- Social Punch is specifically designed for short-form vertical content — use it for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts.
- Gimbal is the default for new projects. It is a good middle ground between stability and responsiveness.
- You can switch presets at any time without losing your anchors and move blocks.
